Visit to Muir Woods National Monument - October 13, 2019
On a chilly 13-October morning, we ventured out to check off one more item from our San Francisco bucket list: the Muir Woods!...Muir Woods National Monument, located about 15 miles north of San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge, spans over 500 acres. With 6 miles of trails within the park, it’s towering redwood and sequioa groves attract tens of thousands of visitors each year. Although the Muir Woods forest is relatively small, its trails are connected to the adjacent Mt. Tamalpais State Park, which offers many hiking opportunities. You can choose the Redwood Creek trail, which is the simplest and most popular route. The trail is flat and walking, with 4 bridges connecting each side of the loop. Bridges allow you to do your long (1.5 hours) or short (30 minutes) hike as you wish. But if you are adventurers, you can also choose the path off the beaten track and do a 2h-3h trek. I loved the atmosphere and the beautiful scenery. There are trees and sequoia as far as the eye can see but we never get tired of them because they really don't look like a forest like we can have in France! It's magical, with the rays of sunshine that cross the forest throughout the walk. I would advise you, it's a must around San Francisco!

Events that I take part

<
At Columbia career design lab - Shopify - San Francisco , April 2, 2014
During my semester at the startup mindset, I participated in various events and conferences. The first was a conference at Columbia University, career design lab with guest Bruce Cleveland. The subject was: Building your startup's "Go to market" strategy ...This event is for startup founders, entrepreneurial product managers and corporate innovators. Featuring a candid conversation with venture investor Bruce Cleveland founding partner of Wildcat VC, and author of the book “traversing the traction gap”. During this presentation, I learned more about the famous notion of traction gap. It’s the period of time between introducing a new product into the marketplace and being able to scale it during a rapidly closing window of opportunityFinally, on the market there is traction which will allow to go to scale. In addition, the traction gap takes into account the following indicators: IPR, MVP, MVR and MVT. So, the Key learnings are: Go to market strategy and traction gap, Market Engineering, leadership, sales and investors.
The second event took place at INSEEC, it was the 5th Annual Columbia Startup Demo Night in San Francisco. There was a presentation of 4 startup projects on technology and the environment. Each had 5 minutes to present their project. The judges decided on the winner. The 4 startup are: Bytebase is the byte-sized knowledge base for notes and tasks. Existing task trackers only watch engineers as they work. Bytebase is a task manager and short-form knowledge repository that actually helps engineers work. Sponsored Video Network gets views for branded video campaigns. It is a private B2B marketplace that consolidates and cross-sells the media inventory of thousands of publishers, giving each the ability to target billions of monthly viewers across web, mobile, TV, and out-of-home devices. Their tech is used to extend audiences for paid, branded video campaigns. Urban Canopy uses aircraft to take high-definition thermal photography of cities during the peak summer months. They put these images on a web-based app so that homeowners, city planners, architects, schools, and businesses can look up a property and see what structures to target for urban greening or cooling projects. Vectorly has a patented 'vectorization' technology which compresses videos up to 50x while improving quality for computer-generated video (animations, screencasts, gaming). The conference shows us how to present its project in an effective way to attract the attention of the juries and to learn more about the creation of startups in the technology world. And it shows you how to find investors.

The third conference I will talk about was held at Shopify's offices in San Francisco. It’s a Former Uber Product Lead on Building a $1 M eCommerce Business The 1st speaker is Romain David: Entrepreneur, Former. Product Lead for Uber and Apple. The 2nd speaker is Sam Venning: Co-founder of eCommerce This event talk about How to grow a $1M Revenue eCommerce side business in 6 months and tips from running large Facebook ad campaigns. We have seen the criteria’s to find your niche, the importance of understanding trends (by reading magazines), discover the marketing platform (Myip.ms), and the speakers give advices to build our business. Finally, he give methods on using facebook and instagram and using them for advertising campaigns.

These events were very rewarding on the one hand because I learned a lot about starting a business and the strategies to make it profitable quickly. But on the other hand because they allowed me to meet interesting people and expand my network.

Startup Courses

At Columbia career design lab - Shopify - San Francisco , April 2, 2014
The training of the startup mindset programme is based on the learning of different courses, all of which are related to the creation of a company and a project. There is the Lean Startup Methodology course, it is a specific approach to product launch. It is based on "Validated learning. With this in mind, companies, especially start-ups, seek to design products and services that best meet their consumers' demand, with a minimum initial investment. Three Steps for Applying Lean Startup to your Business:
-Understand the Problem and Define the Solution. For any business to exist, it must solve a problem. Make a business Persona and a business model. Finally, we must evaluate the traction of its product with interviews.
-Create an MVP. After defining a solution, you need to create a minimum viable product.
-Experiment and Measure. One of the primary steps of the Lean Startup method is run experiments and repeat.
